History of Manitoba Synagogues

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

This session is based on the exhibit “Synagogues” produced by Stan Carbone and Susan Turner under the auspices of the Jewish Heritage Centre. It will offer a general overview of synagogues in relation to the social and cultural development of Manitoba Jewry. As the historian Harry Gutkin noted, “wherever Jews laid down roots, the synagogue and religious rituals were…the centre for all their community activities: weddings, bar mitzvahs, a cheder, a Sunday school, a lecture hall, a library, a social centre and a place for funerals.”  The session will include a tour of the exhibit.
